SensComp’s ultrasonic transducers and sensors are used in both indoor and outdoor applications in a variety of industries and applications. Ultrasonic sensors use the sonar principle in air. They send out an ultrasonic chirp, then convert to the receive mode and wait to detect a return echo from the surface of the target. They are used in applications where a non-contact sensor is required or desired. Our transducers use the electrostatic sensing technology developed by Polaroid.
When Piezo sensors failed to reliably detect soft targets, Polaroid invested millions to create a compact, low-cost electrostatic ultrasonic transducer. The result was a highly sensitive, reliable solution that enabled precise autofocus in cameras and later expanded into broader non-contact sensing applications.
In 2002, SensComp acquired this division and remains the exclusive manufacturer of the 600 Series Transducer. With continuous advancements-including rugged stainless steel housings, parylene coatings, and improved gasketing-our transducer remains a reliable, high-performance solution for today’s most demanding sensing needs.
